COTR’s pastoral internship program was birthed out of a desire to train up men for pastoral ministry in Christ’s church. It is somewhat unique from many, because it is a post-seminary program. We see it as the last step in the process to pastoral ministry after either completing a MDIV degree in a traditional seminary, at our local Christ Seminary, or through sufficient independent studies. Through pastoral mentoring, continued studies, and practical hands-on training in the life of the local church, we desire to train up “faithful men who will be able to teach others also” (2 Tim 2.2). It is a 2 year part-time paid internship working in close contact with the pastor-elder(s) at COTR and our local church family. We pray that God will use our pastoral internship program to prepare men and confirm their call to the ministry. The end goal is the ordination of qualified men as pastor-elders to remain at COTR, be sent out to an existing church, or to plant a church in the U.S. or wherever God might lead in the world.
We have a “courtship” process for the evaluation of a potential intern, either rising up from within our local church or being brought in from the outside. The pastor-elder(s) at COTR must be fully convinced, as well as the potential intern, that it is God’s will and best for them and our church body before they are brought to serve as an intern. If a potential intern is not from our local church, then there would be much conversation and a few personal visits before a commitment is made to have them come join us in ministry.
Please refer to our “Internship Highlights” and the “Personal Evaluation Form” for a fuller description and the details of the program. May our Triune God be glorified through our internship program and by the sending out of qualified men for the ministry of the Word in Christ’s church.
